How to Ruin the Look of Even Your Best Business suit

We told you recently that a fine, fitted business suit is the one essential element of every man’s wardrobe. But what we didn’t tell you is that it’s not enough merely to wear a great suit.

In fact, you can ruin the look of a great suit, and the overall impression it makes, if other elements of your outfit don’t do the suit justice.

To show you what we mean, let’s get right into some of the things that can ruin the look of your business suit.

1.Wearing a Badly-Fitted Shirt

We also recently told you about not making the clothing mistake of wearing a shirt that isn’t the right size. But the mistake is about more than just the look of the shirt.

The folds and creases that can happen when your shirt is too big, or the stretch lines that can show if it is too small, can become the focal point of your outfit even if you’re wearing the finest business suit out there.

2.Tie Neglect

The tie you choose can ruin the look of your business suit in lots of ways. First, mixing patterns and textures has been a mens’ fashion direction over the past few years. But if you don’t get it right, you can turn a good match into a bad clash. Other tie factors that can take away from the look of your suit include the type of knot you use and how well you execute the knot. And the finished length of your tie, especially if it’s dangling out of the bottom of the suit jacket, is crucial.

3.The Shoes can Make the Suit

You probably have at very least a pair of black dress shoes and a pair of brown dress shoes. Those colours can work with many different suit colours and styles. But that doesn’t mean you’re off the hook for choosing one over the other. Brown shoes on a dark suit can draw the focus away from the suit. If you want to look your best in a fine business suit, you can’t go wrong with black.
